Travel Details

Pine Flat Lake is located in the oak-covered foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, approximately 35 miles east of Fresno, California. The construction of the 429 foot tall Pine Flat Dam on the Kings River was completed in 1954. The project*s primary purposes are flood control, irrigation, water conservation, and recreation. When completely full, Pine Flat Lake is 20 miles long, holds 1,000,000 acre feet of water, and covers 5,790 acres with 67 miles of shoreline. The lake offers boating, fishing, hunting, waterskiing, camping, hiking, wildlife viewing, and a 3 mile-long mountain bike trail with beautiful views of the lake. Hundreds of thousands of people take part in recreational activities at Pine Flat Lake each year.

At an elevation of just under 1,000 feet above sea level, Pine Flat Lake normally offers mild fall and winter seasons with an average rainfall of 18 inches and high temperatures in the mid 60*s. Spring weather averages in the 70*s and 80*s with occasional April showers. Summer seasons have an average high temperature in the mid 90*s to low 100*s from mid-June through the end of September.

Directions

From Fresno take CA Highway 180 east approximately 19 miles and turn left on Piedra Road. At the end of Piedra Road turn right onto Trimmer Springs Road. The west end of the lake is approximately 5 miles from the Piedra Road turn off. Trimmer Springs Road provides access to all recreation areas on the north shore of Pine Flat Lake. There are no public roads or developed recreation areas on the south shore of the lake.

To visit the Park Headquarters and Pine Flat Dam, turn right onto Pine Flat Road off Trimmer Springs Road (approximately 1 mile from the Piedra Road turn off). Travel 3 miles on Pine Flat Road past where it crosses the river below the dam and dead ends at the Park Headquarters.
